Joy Chen

Hello! My name is Joy Chen and I am currently a junior at Centennial High. I mainly tutor English, ranging from 1st-5th grade. My teaching style differs depending on each child. I use fun slideshows for the younger ones, and for older kids I tend to use a more mature style. I believe that having patience with each kid is an essential to being a good tutor. I want each one of them to feel comfortable with asking questions and communicating with me. A good environment makes for better learning. I always look forward to moments where each kid sees their progress, and is happy for themselves. It’s the best! Being a tutor at EMFA has been nothing less than an amazing experience. I hope to continue to teach kids and be apart of their growth!!

Angela Huang

Hi! I’m Angela Huang and I'm a student that attends Centennial High School. I love teaching kids and have been doing so for 5 years. I believe that patience is the most important thing when it comes to teaching and tutoring. Not everything will go to plan, but you have to be patient and work around it. Your student will not understand everything you say, so you have to slowly help them do so. When I started tutoring at EMFA, I was like traditional tutors. Using slideshows, having warm ups, lessons, then practice. But over time I noticed that it didn’t work. After that, I changed my teaching style and made it more interesting and interactive. But how? I made it so it was a story, having comedic plots, but so the student was a part of that experience. The most recent one was the story between 7, 8, and 9. It is about how 7 and 8 are having a war and they want to expand their army. 7 times 5, how much power is that? My favorite part of tutoring is when your student finally starts understanding and when they are excited to see you and learn. I hope to continue helping kids throughout my life.

Audrey Saynes

Hey! My name is Audrey Saynes, and I’m a senior high school student. I’ve been homeschooled my whole life so I had to figure out ways to keep my focus on school. I found that having a genuine interest in my subjects made learning much easier and that the people teaching me had a big influence on that. My goal is to be a tutor who helps spark my student’s interest in the topics we cover and therefore make learning much easier and fun. I believe that any student can have fun with school as long as they understand the subject, and that is where I hope to aid my students in. The understanding and the joy in their faces when concepts start clicking in their heads is what I love most about tutoring. I also enjoy watching students apply their newfound knowledge and listening to them share their thoughts and observations because they often are very fun and innovative. I believe that good tutors are ones that never stop learning and are not afraid to be wrong, and I can only pray to be and work towards that.

Isabella Wu

Hi everyone! My name is Isabella Wu, and I am a junior in high school. I have been a tutor here at EMFA for almost a year now and have enjoyed every aspect of it! Currently, I tutor in math and have ranged from 2nd grade math to pre-algebra. When it comes to tutoring, I always believe that being patient, supportive, and adaptable to the student's needs is very important. During my lessons, I use slideshows and Jamboards. I realized that what helped my students learn the most was knowing how a problem was solved step-by-step. The equations and problems would be on the slides, while I used the Jamboard to show how to get an answer. Seeing your students finally understand how to do something is always one of my favorite parts! It's incredibly rewarding to witness their growth and progress. As I continue to tutor, I hope to help my students become more confident in math and make a difference in their lives!

Rihana Yami

Hello! My name is Rihana Yami, and I am a freshman in high school. I've been a math tutor at EMFA for about six months now, and it's been an incredible experience. My student and I spend a lot of time working on problem-solving and analytical skills. We dive into complex concepts and figure out how to apply them to real-life situations. I try to make our sessions interactive and fun, which helps keep both of us engaged and makes learning more enjoyable. Seeing the excitement in my students' eyes when they finally understand a tricky concept is one of the best parts of this job. EMFA has been a great place to work, surrounded by people who are just as passionate about helping others as I am. I'm really grateful for this opportunity and can't wait to continue teaching and learning here.
